GREAT NEWS: California Will Lead In Tackling College Student Debt #DegreesNotDebt

California’s Democratic leadership announced that they will lead the way in tackling the enormous college debt being amassed by California students.  If passed, it will be the nation’s most generous plan to date.

Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) shared “California is taking the boldest step in the nation for making college debt-free.”

The plan will supplement an already existing plan  to eliminate the need for student loans for those attending Cal State and UC schools.  It would also boost community college grants and provide free first-year tuition to community college students.

At a press conference On Monday morning, Assemblyman Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) said that “Lower-income students … are able to many times, through our great programs in California, get help to pay for tuition. But they’re still graduating with a tremendous amount of debt.” He added that what students really need is help with books, the cost of living and transportation.
