Four Things You Should be Horrified About This Week in Public Education

Thing One:   An 8 year-old child was told to urinate in a trashcan in front of the class then made to wear trash bags by a teacher at a South LA school. I don’t even know how to begin to tell you how beyond disgusted I am that this happened! I don’t even know what kind of an evil and mentally deranged individual does this. It happened this week at Manhattan Place Elementary School. The boy had to sit in his wet clothing all day, and no phone call home was made.  Whoever did this to the student needs to held accountable. The incident is now under investigation, and LAUSD says it has alerted the authorities about the matter. I think it’s safe to say that the teacher who allowed this to happen is a sick individual with no business in the classroom!

Thing Two:  In another ignorant event at a public school near you, a child was made to wash his ashes off of his forehead by a teacher.  This time in Utah, a teacher is on leave after she made a student wash off his ashes. As millions of Catholics and Christians celebrate the start of lent, Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, and millions of kids around the country went to school with the religious symbol of a cross on their foreheads. A fourth grader in Utah was pulled aside, given a disinfectant wipe, and was told to remove it. The teacher has since apologized. Excuse me, apology not accepted. This is another teacher that has no business teaching.

Thing Three: At a Michigan High School, the administration thought it was perfectly acceptable to not provide heating for its students, even though it’s freezing outdoors. In this case, we can applaud the teacher that handed out note cards with the number of the school and board of education to alert them to the fact that it was 58 degrees in the classroom! In this case, the administrators were the evil ones. When the administrators got upset with that the teacher did this, they suspended the teacher! Wait. What?  

Thing Four:  A bus driver in Pennsylvania abandoned her bus full of 30 students at a gas station after telling them to, “Go F&*! Yourselves” and flipping them off as she exited the bus.  The driver was later cited with a DUI and 30 counts of endangering the welfare of children. The kids were also locked on the bus and had to eventually exit through the emergency exits after school administration sent someone over to help get the kids home. As a parent, how horrified would you be about this?
