Angel R. Cervantes was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and is the son of Mexican immigrant parents. He earned a Bachelors Degree from Occidental College and a Masters Degree in U.S. History from the Claremont Graduate University. Cervantes is a social justice and human rights advocate. As a college student, he organized high school and college walk-outs to protest attacks on immigrants in the 1990’s. He was also one of the five UC Irvine Hunger Strikers who fasted for 16 days in 1995 in support of Affirmative Action. He is the author of 4 children’s history activity books and was one of the founding members of his family’s non-profit corporation, The Cervantes Fund for Social Justice. Cervantes has also served as a Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles and the City of San Fernando. Currently, Angel resides in the San Fernando Valley with his wife and 2 children. He has taught at Morningside Elementary School and at Glendale Community College for over 20 years.
