Roberto Viramontes co-leads the Early Childhood Education team for the Learning Policy Institute, with an emphasis on state and federal policy. Viramontes began his work in education as a high school social science teacher for Green Dot Public Schools in Los Angeles. He also previously served as Children’s Deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, as a policy analyst with a focus on early childhood education for First 5 LA, and as Vice President of Education Policy for First Focus. Viramontes also completed a public policy fellowship in Washington, DC, with Congressman Xavier Becerra. He is a board member of several nonprofit organizations that have an education focus, including the Center for Powerful Public Schools, the Los Angeles Education Partnership, First Focus, and the Child Care Law Center. Viramontes received an M.P.P. from the University of Southern California, an M.A. in Education and teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University, and a B.A. in History from California State University Fullerton.
