LAUSD And UTLA Support Accountability, Transparency And Accessibility…Just Not For Themselves

The post is in reference to the LAUSD Board of Education meeting, April 18th, 2017 in which the majority voted to support three legislative bills regarding charter schools in California. The three bills being pushed by CTA (California Teachers Association) are described on their website. No bill available on the obvious shameful lobbying by CTA. Also, If you take a look at the authors of the bills, you will find that they are all recipients of LARGE sums of money and campaign help courtesy of CTA.  

Now, the problem is not that Charter Schools may be required to provide additional accountability measures, increased transparency or equity in admissions. The problem is that all of this is already required and that it is not also being required (again) of the hundreds of, mostly failing, traditional schools in LAUSD.

So, how can you insist on accountability but not require it of traditional schools? Transparency? Have you followed the LAUSD school board meetings? The district has been investigated several times and sued hundreds of times to be forthcoming with information, including one of the largest teacher molestation cases in its history! Really UTLA? You are demanding transparency from ONLY charter schools?

What it is about these people that make them believe that teachers should be blindly supported?  Because let’s not lose sight of the fact that UTLA’s sole job is to protect teachers even if they molest your kids, fail to educate them, berate/demean/discriminate/bully your child…I mean shouldn’t they at least be held to the same standards? Why aren’t they?

Did you know that the majority of schools in LAUSD that are not performing badly are charter schools?  Did you know that the majority of the high schools that are graduating “college-ready” students are charter schools?  Do we not want to inquire into why our traditional LAUSD schools have been failing so many for so long?

My question to lawmakers is this: When will you create a bill to hold LAUSD accountable for the thousands of students who did not get a good education and who could not pursue college without five years of remediation first?  When will that happen?
