LAUSD Votes To Send More Cash To Needy Schools

You may recall a La Comadre article I wrote back in June of 2016 “LAUSD: Pulling a $450,000,000.00 Fast One…Latino & Foster Care Youth Get Shortchanged” regarding the lawsuit brought forth by the Community Coalition against LAUSD in 2015.  We have a very important development to report on that matter. On Thursday, July 6, 2017, the LAUSD board of education voted unanimously to approve a settlement during  closed session.

“We still need to work out a few of the details with the other side,” L.A. Unified general counsel David Holmquist said after the board meeting.

The Board of Education voted to settle that lawsuit in favor of the students affected throughout the district. The board has authorized a settlement that would send more money the neediest schools in the district over the next three years to provide more resources to improve achievement outcomes for African American and Latino students.  

There are apparently still some issues that need to be ironed out, but this is very good news for the students who will be impacted by these funds.
