Legislative Update:
Senate Bill 328 (Portantino) Pupil Attendance: School Start Time has cleared the Senate and is moving forward to the Assembly for consideration. If passed, thousands of teenagers would have a later school day start time that could significantly affect secondary education.
The Bill would change the California Education Code (46148) to change school day times for Middle and High School students to 8:30 A.M. It has been a somewhat controversial bill with teachers mostly objecting while parents seem to be open to the times aligning with Elementary School. Studies have shown that teens would benefit from sleeping in later and that students could greatly benefit from the time change. We will continue to follow this important bill and share updates.
