UTLA is Set To Strike on Jan. 10, What Might Happen If Union Demands Are Met?

We all agree that the government shutdown is terrible and that it must end as soon as possible, right? What about the LAUSD shutdown? What should be done about this local shutdown? Over 600,000 students could go unsupervised if UTLA has its way during the upcoming strike. UTLA has been threatening anyone who steps in during the strike. Something that I think should be illegal. Threats of blackballing and other hostile actions were spotted on social media over the holiday season. What about the kids? What are the students supposed to do during the strike?  

At this point, I sort of secretly hope that UTLA gets its way and that the union’s demands are met. Perhaps the insolvency of the district would be best for all involved. It’s clear that the district cannot afford the demands, but hey, who cares, as long as the teachers get their way?  Except there could be some unintended consequences. If LAUSD caves to the demands of UTLA, it will surely go bankrupt and be taken over by the state. In that scenario, teachers would/could possibly lose pay, more resources would be lost, and absolutely no one would win in that scenario.
