Free College Promise Comes to San Bernardino

One of the best stories in a while for the Inland Empire is the Free College Promise.  Starting in the fall of 2019, 1,000 students will receive two years of tuition-free higher education.

“The Promise program will give 1,000 qualifying students two years of free tuition at SBVC or CHC, free textbooks, $300 cash for college expenses, free access to a laptop for coursework, individualized advising and priority course enrollment. Funding for the program comes from a $10 million endowment established in October by the trustees.“

San Bernardino has one of the highest poverty rates in the state. The Free College Promise will boost the number of students who can attend college who may not have otherwise been able to.   This is an amazing opportunity for students who want to access higher education.

Enrollment is open to students from the following school districts:  Bear Valley Unified, Colton-Joint Unified, Redlands Unified, Rialto Unified, Rim of the World Unified, San Bernardino City Unified and Yucaipa-Calimesa Unified. If you are receiving a high school diploma from any of these districts, priority in enrolling will be given.
