One Family and Angelenos Raising Money for Families Facing Hardship During COVID-19 Crisis

True leadership comes not only from organizations, but also people who are willing to take action and help. In mid March, La Comadre was contacted by One Family LA, a collective fundraising initiative led by Great Public Schools Now (GPSN) and asked to collaborate on fundraising efforts for families impacted by COVID-19. Without hesitation, our Founder Alma V. Marquez jumped on board and leveraged our amazing network. Together, we were able to spread the word on what was needed, pitch in with resources, and help struggling out-of-state college students find a way home due to campus closures across the nation. 

On March 25th, GPSN put out a statement, where details of funding allocation were made public. A RFP application was made available to non-profit organizations who demonstrated capacity to deploy funds to those most in need; organizations selected to deploy relief were Alliance for a Better Community, Parent Revolution, Communities In Schools, and United Parents and Students. 

Currently, we’ve joined these organizations and pivoted to focus on the many families in our community without access to health care, income to meet their basic needs, and hope. Through our continuous fundraising efforts, these families will be able to get assistance during this difficult time. The more we raise, the more families we can help. As a part of our valued network, we ask if possible that you donate using the link below. No amount is too large – or small. All funds given will go directly to the most vulnerable in our community, and give them a safety net during this unprecedented crisis.
