It appears City National Bank will continue its tradition of donating to LAUSD financial literacy programs which began in 2019; last week they announced another three-year, $1 million donation.
“Providing critical financial education tools to high school students is one of the most important ways City National can help to make our communities stronger,’ Kelly Coffey, CEO of City National Bank, said in a statement announcing the donation. ‘Teaching students important money management skills is crucial for them to make sound financial decisions needed to achieve their educational and professional aspirations.”
We think financial literacy is a fantastic idea that’s missing in most schools. Of course it’s important to know your algebra and geometry, but many BIPOC students will also be taking out student loans for college without always understanding the financial impact and loan terms. Hopefully this program can help in that regard, as well as teaching students about saving for retirement, the path to home ownership, and building credit.
“To achieve success in college and beyond, we must teach students about money management skills and the importance of saving and spending wisely,’ LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said in a statement. ‘We are grateful to City National for providing comprehensive tools and financial literacy lessons to help our high school students make responsible money management decisions.”
